ADVENTURES IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD: The "Museum Adventure Pass" program has been extended for another year and the Livonia Public Libraries are happy to be a part of it! This program lets you explore many of the Detroit area's best museums and cultural treasures for free with your library card. You just need to stop by the library and check out a Museum Adventure Pass for the participating museum of your choice. There are only a limited number of passes for each museum at each library, so they are available on a first-come, first-served basis and you are limited to one pass at a time. You can check the library online catalog for the availability of passes by searching by the name of the museum you are interested in. Participating museums for the 2009/2010 program include the Automotive Hall of Fame, the Howell Nature Center, the Pewabic Pottery, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Arab American Museum and the Scarab Club among others. The newest additions are the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Shalom Street, Matthaei Botanical Gardens and the Troy Museum and Historic Village. Please call ahead to the attraction of your choice for current hours or scheduled closings before checking out your pass. LOOKING BACK: Take a look at Livonia's past on our website. Pictures collected as part of the Images of Livonia project have been posted for your use and to spark a few memories. You can find this archive by going to our website and clicking on "Special Collections" at the top of the page, and you'll find the link to these images under Livonia History. Enjoy the stroll down Memory Lane!
MEMORIES TO SHARE: The Livonia Library is interested in oral histories and Livonia images to begin a collection for historic and genealogical research. The library is looking for people to record their memories and descriptions of major events, local businesses, visits by famous people, or even just everyday life in and around Livonia in earlier days. Oral histories will be recorded at the Livonia Civic Center Library and then transcribed into a paper copy, indexed and made accessible for study and, in the future, available on our web site. Each participant will get their own copies of their history in audio and written formats. Photographs of "old Livonia" are also being sought. Pictures of stores, churches, schools, events and other images of the past will be copied and indexed and the original will be returned to the owner. Once again, the goal is to make these treasures available on the internet. For more information, please contact Carl Katzfiasz, Head of Adult Services at the Civic Center Library at (734) 466-2480.
